We recently started a pet sit for a long time client. The sitter arrived to the first visit to discover her key wouldn’t work.
It was the first night of freezing cold, so our first guess was that maybe the lock was frozen. The sitter came and got our backup copy of the key and a can of WD40. The second key also would not work.
I tried contacting the client, but was unable to get ahold of him, so I left messages. My husband and I geared up and headed over to the client’s house to assess the situation.
The keys fit into the door, no problem. They just wouldn’t turn.
We were locked out.
Thankfully, we were able to gain access to the home via another entry point. I’m surprised none of the neighbors called the police on us! We sure looked like burglars skulking about in the dark with our flashlights.
As I was finishing up the visit, the client called.
They changed the locks and forgot to tell us!
I can’t stress it enough, if you change your locks you MUST tell the pet sitter and provide us with new keys! Don’t wait until we’re locked out and you’re away on vacation to get a call from us that we can’t get in!
My husband just kept asking me, “what would a R*ver sitter have done”?
That’s exactly why you should hire a PROFESSIONAL and not an app. We have the experience behind us and know how to handle these situations when they arise.
