There are a lot of things that go through your pet sitter’s mind throughout the course of a day, but some continue to come up over and over again.
1. Why do people who have pukey cats never leave any paper towels?
It never fails. We arrive at the first visit and find a scene that looks like something out of The Exorcist with vomit everywhere. We go to clean up and find a roll of paper towels with exactly ONE sheet left on them….and the client is away for more than a week.
If they don’t leave any paper towels, they use the cheap paper towels that take almost an entire roll to clean up one mess!
2. How can someone go away for a week or more and leave a sink full of dirty dishes?
Thankfully this doesn’t happen all that often, but it does happen often enough it made our list of things we ponder. We arrive for a first visit to find a sink full of dirty dishes and food scraps. YACK! By the end of the week it can smell pretty ripe and be moldy!
I know I wouldn’t want to come home after a long vacation to that!
3. Where do you keep your (insert whatever here)?
I once pet sat for a client for about five years before I FINALLY found where she kept the silverware. Whenever I went for a visit I had to scour the dishwasher for a utensil to use to feed the cats their wet food. I searched and searched and searched. I finally found the silverware tray in….(are you ready?)…the spare bathroom closet. Makes perfect sense, right?
If it’s not silverware, it’s a litter scoop or trash bags to replace on our last visit or paper towels (see #1). We constantly find ourselves in search of something.
