It’s that time of year again. The ants have started descending on any pet food that is left out. There is a very simple, no cost, all natural solution to keeping ants out of your pet’s food bowls. What is it?
Build a moat!
First, find a plate with a lip or a low sided bowl that is several inches larger than your pet’s dish.
Next, place your pet’s dish on top of that plate/dish and then fill the bottom dish with water. You can also fill it with water first and then set your pet’s dish on top but I somehow always end up spilling the water before the dish makes it to the floor.
There should be at least 1/4 inch or more of water in the bottom dish. This creates a barrier that ants can’t get across to get into your pet’s food. The ants won’t attempt to swim to get to the food.
The water does tend to get a little icky because inevitably your pet will drop food in the water so you do need to change it regularly.
