In case you haven’t heard, effective March 1, 2020 all plastic single-use carryout bags are banned from distribution by anyone required to collect New York State sales tax. You wouldn’t think this would affect pet sitters and/or dog walkers, but it does!
How does this ban affect your pet sitter or dog walker?
At any given time I may have half a dozen plastic bags tucked into my pockets. Pet sitters and dog walkers use them for MANY tasks!
- We scoop used cat litter into them.
- We pick up dog poop with them.
The bag ban means that we either have to buy our own bags for these purposes or our clients will have to.
So what should you do?
Well, I did some research and you can still buy the plastic grocery bags from places like Amazon.
For a box of 1,000 bags it will cost you approximately $32, which is just .03 cents per bag. Click here to purchase these bags from Amazon. These are great for scooping used cat litter into.
For picking up dog poop, Amazon has bags that are biodegradable and come with a dispenser you can attach to the leash.
For a box of 240 bags, it will cost you about $15, which is .06 cents per bag. Click here to purchase these bags from Amazon.
Were you aware of the bag ban that is going into effect? Please help your pet sitter/dog walker by providing bags for us to use when caring for your pets!
