I have to admit, we have a LOT of photogenic subjects to choose from. Much more than the average person so the odds are more in our favor that we have to get at least a FEW really good shots, but if you follow just a few simple tips you too can take great pictures of your pets.
1. Turn your flash off!
I know, I know. I was surprised when I read that the first time too and honestly thought there was no way it would make my camera phone pictures decent. But what do you know? It really did work!
2. Carry treats
We’re not above bribery to get a good shot. Give the pet a couple of treats so they know there are more. Hold the treat close to the camera to get them to look at the camera.
3. Simple backgrounds
When looking through the viewfinder or at the screen on your digital camera look beyond the picture and notice the background. Is it super busy? It is going to be distracting from the rest of the picture? Try to keep it simple.
4. Get down!
No, this isn’t just what we say to jumping dogs. To get really good photos of your pets get down to their level. We’ve gotten some great shots by laying on the ground or on the floor.
5. Keep snapping
It doesn’t cost anymore to take 20 pictures than it does 1 so snap, snap, snap away. The more photos you take the more likely you are to have at least one or two exceptional shots.
6. Try your best and fudge the rest!
Editing sites such as picmonkey.com are free and easy to use and can really fix just about any simple error from cropping, touching up, etc. If you want to get more fancy it’s easy to add silly hats, borders or lettering.
